PREPARING FOR YOUR CONSULTATION
An objective look at your options
When facing a complex diagnosis like prostate or kidney cancer, it is completely normal—and highly encouraged—to seek a second opinion. Whether you are looking for reassurance that your current physician's plan is the best path forward, or you want to explore advanced alternatives like robotic surgery, an expert review can provide invaluable peace of mind.
As a board-certified urologist, Dr. Ashorobi considers it a privilege to help patients fully understand their health. She serves as an objective expert to evaluate your case, even if you ultimately choose to remain with your primary surgeon for treatment.
Making the most of your appointment time
A second opinion is most valuable when we can dedicate our time together to discussing your care rather than tracking down files. To ensure a highly productive and efficient conversation, please ensure you have the following materials with you at the time of your visit:
- Pathology reports: The official, written lab results from your biopsy or previous surgeries.
- Imaging discs and reports: Physical CDs or flash drives containing your actual imaging (MRI, CT scans, bone scans), alongside the radiologist's typed reports.
- Current treatment proposals: Notes or documents detailing the specific surgical or medical options your current physician has recommended.
- Complete medical history: An up-to-date list of your current medications, prior surgeries, and existing health conditions.
Questions to bring
- Does my current diagnosis align with the pathology and imaging provided?
- Are there alternative, minimally invasive, or expert approaches (such as robotic surgery) that I should consider?
- What are the honest tradeoffs, risks, and benefits of each option?
